Welcome to the blog — a collection of honest travel writing from two people who have spent the last several years doing things the long way.

We overlanded eight African countries for nearly two years in a 1997 Land Rover Defender 110 TDI named Ntombi. We lived seven month on a Zambian farm during COVID, managed a bush camp inside Murchison Falls National Park, summited Kilimanjaro in desert boots, and watched gorillas in Bwindi on a Tuesday morning with no one else around. We have dived Sipadan, Palau's Blue Corner, the Maldives, Fiji, and Bimini — and we now live on Sal, a Cabo Verde island in the Atlantic, where we run two villa rentals and count loggerhead turtles on the beach in season.

This blog covers all of it: the overlanding build and the two-year route, honest destination guides across Africa, Asia, and the Atlantic, diving from beginner to serious, life on a remote island, and the food, gear, and decisions that connected everything.

It is written for people who travel with curiosity rather than a checklist. If that sounds like you, you are in the right place.

Follow along on Instagram at @livindustyandsalty for the pictures the blog cannot always fit, and use the contact form to reach us directly — whether you have a question, a suggestion, or just want to say hello. We read everything and reply to most of it.
